Buenos dias Buenos Aires

Buenos Dias Buenos Aires

Just off our 14 hour turbulent flight where sleeping in what can only be described as a dog kennel but smaller was near impossible. Half the plane was broken and in order to see the screens you had to sit on your pillow.. unless of course you were six feet tall. And to top it all off we wasn't even sat together! At least the food was nice... well breakfast was :).

Customs was interesting... having our bags checked twice and being printed and pictured by security. I think some guy tried to smuggle some meat or some other contriban item in because it took ages to pass through. There were soo many long queues. We made the most of the time though and exchanged our money to Argentinian pesos.

As rich as this currency initially made me feel, it was short lived by the wonderfull 61 peso bill we had for buying a set of soft drinks. Madness!

Anyway we headed for a place that would take us to the hotel. We luckily found a service that would take us to the hotel door for 95 pesos each. No idea what that is in pounds but judging by the 65 peso average for a fast food meal that it wasn't that bad a deal. The seats in comparison to the plane were heaven. They were so comfortable it was hard to stay awake. We also bypassed a gentleman who was holding up a long queue of traffic,  juggling on a uni cycle.

After a short journey where some Portuguese indivuduals tried to convince us to exchange pesos on the black market, we arrived at the hotel. Which was a very fancy building surrounded by varied fanvy buildings and run down ones.

After a wonderfully comfy nap and relaxing cold shower we decided to hunt for somewhere to eat. As we exited the hotel we passed the remains of the red bull racing event. We continued to walk passing some cute and stylish shops. Good for the eye not so good for the wallet. We wandered onward passing quite a few burger kings and mcdonalds. Distracted by beautigul flourescent lights we headed for this historical square.

The square was absolutely beautiful but was surrounded by masses of protesting banners, signs and graffiti. It seems the protests were to do with the Falklands which made me slightly uneasy. Nevertheless the buildings were beautiful and surrounded by palm trees and greenery.

Tired and hungry we headed back the way we came. We decided to stop in what appeared to be a posh mcdonalds and take up their offer of a hamburger meal for 25 pesos each. The staff looked very stylish in their uniforms. We ate and then headed back for the hotel.

Realising there was a supermarket directly opposite the hotel we popped in. Chocolate bars were priced at 17 pesos! We picked up some toothpaste and bisguits and headed back for bed. Having watched some random Spanish cartoons we went to sleep.
